The SEAI Better Energy Home grants is aimed at homeowners wishing to reduce their energy costs and greenhouse emissions. The Heating Controls Upgrade Grant worth €700 is available to all homeowners whose home was built and occupied before 2006. Upgrading your heating controls allows you to enjoy a warmer, more energy efficient home as well as cutting your heating and hot water bills.

How to apply
• Decide which measures you wish to apply for.**
If you wish to get multiple measures done, it is recommended to apply for them at the same time to prevent requiring multiple BER assessments.
• Find an SEAI registered contractor, assure they are registered for the work to be carried out. Put a contract for works in place with you and your contractor before work begins. Here is a Sample Contract. It is recommended to get a few quotes from contractors. You will need their SEAI ID code for your application.
• Apply for the grant via online application or post. If you wish to apply by post, call 1850 927 000 to have an application form posted out you or alternatively, download a copy of the application form here.. Post your completed application form to :

If applied for online, the grant offer will be received immediately. If applied for by post, the grant offer will be received in 5 working days. Applicants have 30 days to accept the offer.
• Get the works done by the SEAI registered contractor, pay the contractor in full or by financial agreement and complete the BER assessment with an SEAI registered BER assessor and have cert published. All work must be carried out and completed within 6 months of the grant offer.
• Fill out the Declaration of Work and get it signed by the contractor, BER assessor and applicant. Once the form is completed, post the Declaration of Work and a Request for Payment to the SEAI office in Cahirciveen, Co Kerry. It is very important to ensure you put the correct date of works on the Declaration of Works form. The 'date work completed' is the date the works grant aided by SEAI are completed and not the date on which the any larger job was completed.
The money is paid into the applicants account within four weeks.
**1. Cash Grants are set value unless expenditure is below the set value, in which case the actual expenditure will be reimbursed.
2. A Building Energy Rating (BER) is an integral part of all grant applications under the Better Energy Homes scheme, whereby homeowners must undertake a BER on their home after grant aided works have been completed. A homeowner is entitled to BER funding of €50 once per home. This funding will be applied to your grant application automatically provided you have never applied previously for BER funding. You will be informed during the online grant application process if BER funding is available for your home or as part of your Letter of Grant Offer if you have applied through the post. It is advisable that you apply for and undertake all planned grant aided works at the same time to minimise the costs of multiple BER assessments.

- Your MPRN which is your meter point reference number. This can be found on your electricity bill and is 11 digits long.
- The year your house was built and occupied - this must be prior to 2006.
